I.
TECHNICAL SCOPE
This bulletin is an outline of the
Approved OEM Requirement
for replacing all
TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
sealing components when reinstalling
a clamp
-
in style TPMS sensor.
Approved OEM Requirement for Re
-
Installing an TPMS Sensor
The OEM
requires
that the
sealing components be replaced
when re
-
installing a
TPMS sensor. The replacement components are supp
lied in Schrader
-
Bridgeport TPMS service packs, which are sensor specific. Each Schrader
-
Bridgeport TPMS service pack contains a nut, a valve core, a cap, and a
grommet. Schrader also supplies service packs for competitor sensors that may
contain other c
omponents such as stems, extra washers and multiple caps. In
each case, all components of the service pack should be used.

DEFINITIONS
1.
TPMS

Tire Pressure Monitoring System
2.
Galvanic Corrosion

accelerated corrosion of a metal caused by a
union of
dissimilar metals in a corrosive environment.
In the case of the TPMS system, the most common, but not
exclusive corrosive environment is a combination of air, water
and road salt.
3.
Dissimilar metals

different metals that could form a corrosive
relati
onship in an electrolyte when connected by a metallic path (ie.
Aluminum and brass in physical contact exposed to salt water, or the
aluminum stem in contact with the steel wheel).
4.
Electrolyte

a substance that when dissolved in a suitable solvent
become
s a conductor in which current is carried, thereby causing
accelerated corrosion.
