    Basically you cannot salvage it. You have two options, if the sensor and stem are separate ( two parts), you can replace the stem. Some sensors however have a fixed stem-sensor that can not be separated. In that case you need to replace the entire sensor, or if you are lucky replace it by an aftermarket sensor that consist out of two parts (stem and sensor). That will keep you in the position to be able to replace in the future the stem only, if it is severely damaged or broken.
    Here in Europe, we have a repair kit that can repair a broken of stem, costs around USD 35 for 4 stems. Hope this answers your question
